He and Hughes collaborated on a 1932 children’s book entitled Popo and Fifina.. Hughes as well as Hughes worked together on the children’s book published in 1932 called Popo and Fifina.
He was raised at his Louisiana house which was the home of Charlie Bontemps and Marie Pembrooke Bontemps. Together with his wife Alberta she raised six children.
